Today, we’re going to be talking about General Mint. Could this be perhaps the most popular snusexpress on the market today? If I was a betting man, I’d wager so. When I first started using snus back in the day, General’s Mini Mint was the one that made me a believer in Swedish Snus. Sadly, that one is no longer around, but it’s big brother General Mint is! Today, we’re going to spend some time with this tasty mint snus and find out what makes it so loved amongst snus fans!
Popping the top on this one, you’ll see the catch lid is the standard format, so quick and easy access to insert your used portions if you aren’t near a trash bin. The description says this one is “a popular white portion snus from General that treats you to medium strong kicks and a refreshing peppermint flavor over a light and spicy tobacco blend!” The bottom of the can says this one weighs in at 24 grams. I count 24 portions in the can, weighing 1 gram each. The nicotine content is 8mg/g (0.8%), and with 1 gram portions that hits right at 8mg per portion!
When you open the can you’ll notice the portions come in this neat little swirl. This is called the “Star Formation”, and it’s how Swedish Match’s premium white portion snus products come. I suggest rolling a portion around between your fingers before you put it in, because it loosens (or “fluffs”) the tobacco and makes it more soft under the lip. The portions have a soft feel to them, and are comfortable under the lip. There is a nice cooling sensation that comes on when you pop a pouch in, too. In the aroma, this one has a sweet, cool smell of peppermint. It’s not a super sharp peppermint, nor is it too “icy” in nature, but it’s definitely present. The flavor delivers that same sweetness you get in the aroma. The peppermint flavor profile is straight forward, present, but not too overbearing by any means. It’s a sweeter snus, but not overly sweet. The nicotine strength on this one is just right, delivering right at the regular strength level. A nice, steady, stable delivery of nicotine that feels just right. In the flavor longevity arena, you can enjoy a prolonged flavor release, hanging out for up to about an hour.
It’s pretty easy to see why this one is so incredibly popular. The flavor is well balanced, enjoyable, and has that “all day” feel to it. If you’re a mint fan, this is one that you’ll definitely dig. The General Snus family has a premium feel to it and an incredibly high product quality, so mint lovers will get the taste they love, but also the quality that Swedish Match puts in every pouch. I’m more of a spearmint guy over peppermint, personally, but I will admit I throw a can of this on my orders here and there.
